Eye Society

Eye Society is a designer eyewear showroom located inside AFI Cotroceni, Bucharest’s largest shopping center. Dedicated to those who consider eyewear an extension of personal style, Eye Society brings together over 100 sunglasses and eyeglasses brands, an in-store optometrist and prescription lenses from Zeiss, Essilor and Hoya. The showroom is a complete optical destination where frame selection, eye examination and lens fitting take place under the same roof.

Gucci, Prada and Dior define the visual identity of the Eye Society showroom. Gucci’s retro-contemporary aesthetic comes through in thick acetate frames in havana tones with gold GG detailing. Prada explores geometric shapes in layered acetate, while Miu Miu, its bolder sibling, proposes oversized frames with unexpected color accents. Dior collections — from DiorBlackSuit to DiorMidnight — translate the French house’s architectural codes into acetate and titanium structures.

Eye Society has an optometry practice within the AFI Cotroceni showroom, where a qualified optometrist performs comprehensive eye examinations. The assessment includes visual acuity testing, refraction measurement, intraocular pressure screening and anterior segment analysis — the same scope as a standard eye exam in any specialist clinic, with the advantage of proceeding directly to frame and lens selection in the same location. Based on the results, the optometrist issues an updated prescription, and the client can continue immediately with fitting. Eye examinations are available by appointment and on a walk-in basis, subject to availability.

Following the eye examination, Eye Society offers prescription lenses from three of the world’s leading manufacturers. Zeiss, the German company with over 175 years of optical excellence, is represented through SmartLife progressive lenses — optimized for today’s digital lifestyle — and DriveSafe lenses, engineered to reduce glare and improve vision in driving conditions. Essilor, the global leader in ophthalmic lenses, is present through the Varilux progressive range and Crizal coatings, which provide anti-reflective, anti-scratch and blue light filtration properties. Hoya, the Japanese manufacturer, completes the offer with Hoyalux progressive lenses and BlueControl technology for screen protection. Transitions photochromic lenses, which automatically adapt to light intensity, are available as an option across all lens types in the showroom. Whether the client needs progressive lenses for daily wear or specialist blue light blocking glasses for extended screen use, Eye Society configures each pair to the individual prescription and lifestyle.

Tom Ford brings cinema to eyewear design — cat-eye and aviator shapes with polarized lenses and matte finishes that evoke 1970s film. Cartier translates into optics the same craftsmanship that has defined its jewelry: frames in gold, platinum and buffalo horn, hand-finished in the house’s Parisian ateliers. Versace commands presence with raised Medusa ornamentation and gilded metal, while Dolce & Gabbana captures Mediterranean influences and Sicilian baroque in hand-worked acetate.

Giorgio Armani remains the reference for understated elegance, with ultra-thin titanium frames in neutral tones. Dita, the American manufacture with production entirely in Japan, is recognized for jewelry-grade details applied to titanium and Japanese acetate frames. Fendi, Celine, Saint Laurent and Balmain complete the fashion house selection, each with a distinctive approach to proportion, material and the way a frame shapes the gaze.

Beyond fashion houses, Eye Society carries brands rooted in the history of optics. Ray-Ban, created in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb for American military pilots, remains the global reference in sunglasses — from Aviator to Wayfarer. Persol, founded in Turin in 1917, is synonymous with Crystal lenses and the patented Meflecto hinge. Silhouette, the Austrian manufacture in Linz founded in 1964, produces some of the lightest frames in the world — rimless designs under 2 grams, screwless, in pure titanium. Oakley covers the sport segment with Prizm lens technology and impact-resistant constructions.

What sets Eye Society apart from any other optical store in Romania is its selection of independent manufacturers. Moscot, the family-run New York atelier with over a century of history, brings American intellectual style in hand-worked acetate. Lindberg, the Danish house founded in 1969, reinvented the eyeglass frame through screwless titanium wire construction — each pair weighs under 3 grams and can be customized across over 100 parameters, making Lindberg eyewear the most configurable rimless eyewear in the industry. Kuboraum, the Berlin-based avant-garde label, creates sculptural frames that challenge aesthetic conventions. Cutler and Gross, founded in London in 1969, is celebrated for its thick, hand-polished acetate. From Japan, Eye Society presents Matsuda — whose engraved titanium frames recall Art Deco — Masunaga, the Fukui-based manufacture with over 120 years of acetate-polishing heritage, and Eyevan, a Japanese interpretation of classic American elegance. Linda Farrow, the London house established in 1970, rounds out this selection with acetate frames and gold-plated pieces. Oliver Peoples completes the range with its Californian aesthetic rendered in Japanese acetate.

Eye Society consultants at the AFI Cotroceni showroom guide each client through the differences between materials: hand-finished Mazzucchelli acetate versus Japanese Fukui acetate, β-titanium versus pure titanium, Cartier’s buffalo horn versus surgical-grade nickel alloys in sport constructions. This expertise enables an informed choice based not only on aesthetics, but on weight, flexibility and long-term wearing comfort.

The AFI Cotroceni showroom is designed for a fitting experience that respects each visitor’s time and preferences. Natural lighting replicates real wearing conditions, and consultants assess facial structure, proportions and personal style before recommending a frame. Whether the client is looking for polarized sunglasses for driving, progressive prescription lenses, sport frames with advanced UV protection, or blue light blocking glasses for screen use, every pair is individually adjusted.

The complete Eye Society portfolio also includes collections from Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs, Swarovski, Michael Kors, Burberry, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Valentino, Bulgari, Chopard, Alexander McQueen, Coach, Tory Burch, Dsquared2, Max Mara and Montblanc. The selection is refreshed each season.

Eye Society is an authorized retailer for every brand in its portfolio and an official partner of Zeiss, Essilor and Hoya. Each pair of glasses arrives in the manufacturer’s original packaging, with a certificate of authenticity, CE compliance marking and a minimum two-year official warranty. The showroom at AFI Cotroceni is open daily during the shopping center’s operating hours — visit the Eye Society showroom at AFI Cotroceni for directions, images and contact details.

The Gucci GG Logo collection introduces havana acetate with gold accents in reimagined classic round and square shapes. Tom Ford continues its cat-eye and aviator series with polarized lenses and matte finishes. Brand Spotlight: Lindberg at Eye Society

Lindberg is one of the most appreciated eyewear brands at the Eye Society showroom in AFI Cotroceni. The Danish house, founded in 1969 by optometrist Poul-Jørn Lindberg in Aarhus, fundamentally changed how eyeglass frames are constructed.

The Lindberg principle is simple and radical: no screws, no welding, no element that is not absolutely necessary. Frames are made from aerospace-grade titanium wire or titanium sheet, laser-cut and hand-assembled in Denmark. A pair of Lindberg glasses typically weighs under 3 grams — less than a coin. This makes them ideal for all-day continuous wear without pressure on the nose or temples.

At Eye Society, the available Lindberg collections include the Strip series — rimless frames from titanium sheet — along with Air Titanium, Spirit and Thintanium. Lindberg’s customization range is unique in the industry: over 100 parameters can be configured, from nose bridge width to temple length, titanium color and lens shape. Eye Society consultants take precise measurements to identify the optimal configuration for each client.

Lindberg frames are compatible with all prescription lens types available at Eye Society, including Zeiss SmartLife and Essilor Varilux progressives. Combining a sub-3-gram Lindberg frame with a latest-generation progressive lens results in a pair of prescription glasses that redefines comfort. Lindberg collections can be seen and tried on at the Eye Society showroom in AFI Cotroceni.

Lindberg has won over 100 international design awards, including Red Dot, IF Design Award and Silmo d’Or.
